A Day in Our Life…

International Fireworks Festival

For those who I’ve only just met, let me get you up to speed. My family have just moved from Perth, Western Australia, to Manila in the Philippines. There is me – SaltyBug, it’s a pleasure to meet you. My husband SandyBug whose work brought us here.  Our 4 year old boy BusyBug and our almost 3 year old girl FlutterBug. We are four weeks into our new life, so a day in our life is still evolving. But you know some things don’t change.

We are a little obsessed with Dr Seuss at the moment so pardon the poem that follows.

Flower Festival

The kids wake up when the light filters through

Telling their GRO clock just what to do
even though Mr Sun is well aware of the time, he is meant to ‘wake up’ and ‘rise and shine’
I can’t argue, not a tote, cos I’m usually still comatose
Until I get jumped on and snuggled in tight
By my babes still warm from being tucked up all night
(Oh what a totally divine delight)

Suddenly a determined voice sings out ‘get up mummy and make me breakfast!’

FB with a friend

I roll out of bed, all stiff and sore, from sleeping on a mattress lay on the floor

I’m stiff as a board, do the roll and hoik, to get myself up on my feet alright.
My stiff creaking body walks slowly along, taking the stairs one by one
The kids meanwhile have flown down, probably doing cartwheels seven to one
I’m not really sure, it’s hard to say, my eyes still unfocused, not yet awake for the day.

So that’s the start of a normal day, I get breakfast as the children play
Salcedo Markets

What’s on today? Let me look – I have a special research book
Where I write my ideas and plans, to explore this very special Land

Whatever we find, whatever we see, this is one big adventure – come along with me
So get yourself comfy, grab your mug

It’s time to catch up with SaltyBug

  1. This was so fun to read! I find it amazing when people are skilled poets. Being able to arrange words in way way that conveys what you want it to, all while making it roll off the tongue in a beautiful and rhyming way, it's pretty neat. My poetry is rather elementary in that sense. lol

My hubby is Filipino-American! I'm interested to see how life unfolds for you and your family in the Philippines. Thank you for sharing it with us!

  2. Thanks V, that's kind. I actually haven't written poetry since I was in my teens. I'm recently back into pushing my creative side and it feels fantastic to be writing in a range of styles. I feel a quiet part of my brain being dusted off. Give that squishy baby of yours a cuddle for me. I'm baby-crazy. xxx

  3. I love this! I feel like poetry just makes everything seem a little bit more mysterious and fun. 🙂 It was awesome to get a glimpse into your life. Can't wait to hear more about your journey in the Philippines. Thanks for joining us!

  4. Thanks Mia, I agree that poetry makes things more fun and I enjoy the challenge of fitting words together. Kinda like a jigsaw puzzle. 8)
