Hulugan Falls, Laguna

Hulugan Falls, Laguna, Philippines

Hulugan Falls is by far our favourite waterfall in Laguna. The drive is a little long so leave early. Pack a picnic, your swimmers and be prepared for a short but reasonably challenging hike, and get down there. The kids loved it, managed the rocky climb with ease and now they keep asking to go back. You get to drink cool clean water straight off the mountain! Seriously why are you waiting?

La Union: San Juan

San Juan, La Union, Philippines

We feel like we really started our road trip here, in San Juan. Known for its surf, this is a popular beach for surfy types and backpackers. The sand is dark, warm and soothing, the water is wild and the sea breeze is gorgeous.

When Holidays go Wrong

Disneyland Hong Kong

Sometimes things just don’t go to plan when you go on holidays. What then? You can cry in a corner, that is therapeutic, or you can just go to ‘Plan B’ and figure it out. Our time at Hong Kong Disneyland was certainly an experience.

Food Park Fun at The Yard Underground, Pasig

Food Park in Manila

Have you tried hanging at a food park? Well, maybe you should give it a try. Casual dining, a range of cuisines, chilled out and relaxed. We went to The Yard Underground in Pasig the other week. It was a pretty good night out.

Excuse the mess…

There is that dream about expat life, that you are surrounded by domestic help and life is all gin and tonics, manicures and long lunches….well it might be for you, but it definitely isn’t for me. Well apart from the gin and tonic…life is still messy, literally and figuratively

Pandin Lake & River Monsters – Just Kidding…

I was twitchy, we had to get out of town so we went back down to Laguna to visit the Seven Lakes of San Pablo. Okay, we only really saw 3 but it was a very awesome day and now I have stopped twitching…for now…

Home is Where the Heart Is

Life was simpler when we were home, when photographs of that life sneak up on me they take my breath away. It hurts remembering. Such is the nature of homesickness, and of the grief of letting go of the past.

Sandy Toes & Salty Kisses – Cagbalete Island

We just took a weekend off. Heading to Cagbalete Island, we went off the grid for a few days and it was lovely. Noodle-Bug came along for the adventure too. Now he is officially a Seadog.
