Ilocos Norte: Paoay and Pagudpud

Day three was driving up the coast to Pagudpud. On the way we checked out the incredible Badoc Island, stopped at Paoay Church to admire the ancient architecture then made it to our resort in Pagudpud in time for a swim and gin and tonic on the beach, watching the sunset.

Badoc Island is one of the Philippines best kept secrets. This little strip of white beach sits 1km off Badoc Beach and is simply perfection.

We feel like we really started our road trip here, in San Juan. Known for its surf, this is a popular beach for surfy types and backpackers. The sand is dark, warm and soothing, the water is wild and the sea breeze is gorgeous.

The other weekend it was Adventure Saturday and we headed off to the beach. Real Surf in Quezon offers great relief from the usual beach experience, with small waves, clean sand and comfortable surrounds.
