Ilocos Norte: Kabigan Falls
Kabigan Falls are absolutely gorgeous. The walk to get there is easy and beautiful as you wander through the forest listening to the sounds of mountain rivers, and snack on delicious treats along the way.
As an expat in the Philippines, one of my goals is to explore as much of this country as I possibly can before we leave. You see expat life is transient and one day we will be moving on. I like to share my travel stories with readers to encourage them to explore, step out of their comfort zone and become more familiar with the culture, the people and the land they are guests of.

The last two days of our road trip were spent driving around Pagudpud, exploring and discovering the most beautiful coastline and mountain regions. This place is heaven on earth.
Day three was driving up the coast to Pagudpud. On the way we checked out the incredible Badoc Island, stopped at Paoay Church to admire the ancient architecture then made it to our resort in Pagudpud in time for a swim and gin and tonic on the beach, watching the sunset.
Badoc Island is one of the Philippines best kept secrets. This little strip of white beach sits 1km off Badoc Beach and is simply perfection.
The capital of Ilocs Sur is the famous town of Vigan. Centuries old, the architecture is Spanish style and the famous street ‘Heritage Village, Calle Crisolog’ is the reason everyone visits. This UNESCO Heritage site comes alive in the dark of night – when nobody is around.
Tangadan Falls is a two-tiered waterfall located in the town of San Gabriel. It is about forty-five minutes from San Juan, La Union, and it is absolutely stunning.
We feel like we really started our road trip here, in San Juan. Known for its surf, this is a popular beach for surfy types and backpackers. The sand is dark, warm and soothing, the water is wild and the sea breeze is gorgeous.
A road trip is a great way to spend time together as a family, but let’s not fool ourselves. Kids whinge and whine and make you want to throw yourself out of the window sometimes. But at the end of it, their excitement and wonderment in discovery is pretty awesome.
Reg Yuson is one of the Philippines most successful artists. His work fills public spaces and creates a presence, making it impossible to ignore.
I do love to share my favourite finds with friends, so decided perhaps I should share them here as well. What better way to celebrate some of life’s lovelies.
