Isn’t it funny how moments are captured in our minds. Buried deep we forget, until something – some thing, reminds us.
A few mornings ago FlutterBug woke and the first thing she said was ‘I want to wear your fishy hat’. It took me a moment to understand and when I did I felt transported back ten years to Thailand. As I dug deep into a box of treasures I was keeping, I pulled out my beloved Nemo hat. Memories flooded back of a night out in Bangkok.
I found my Nemo hat on Khaosan Road in Bangkok on a boozy night out. After surviving a harrowing train ride back from Ayutthaya, SB and I found our five star reservation we’d treated ourselves to on that stretch of our holiday, had been stuffed up. Instead we were checked into the ‘rooms by the hour’ sister hotel complete with creepy low lit hallways and icky smells.
We needed to let off some steam so we met up with friends in this amazing backpacker mecca. Sitting at one of the street bars, drinking ‘buckets’ I saw a street seller with an impressive display of hats but the one that caught my eye was Nemo. The movie was big back then. I chased this chap down the road to claim my prize and I wore it with pride that night.
Did I ever think back then that this prize would be worn by my child? Not at all.
Life moves in a beautifully magical way.
