New Years in Manila

New Years in Manila is awesome. This city is big on celebrating and fireworks are the main source of colour on a night like this. It is said that everywhere you look the sky is filled with them so the goal is to be somewhere, preferably up high, where you can get an almost perfect 360 degree view of the city. From there you can watch the evening light up in magnificent style. Manila is known for its massive parties, where the drinks and food flow. Happiness spreads around as people celebrate into the early hours of the morning.

Well, so I’ve been told. Having got back home from our holiday in the wee hours of the previous morning, I was exhausted. The children were asleep by seven and I was in bed at 8.30pm reading my book and listening to the sound of fireworks being let off. The silence had been broken at around 8pm and I felt the rhythmic vibration of the ’boom, boom’ as the rockets burst forth and filled the air with light. It sounded really amazing.

…I was asleep by 9.30pm…

I love this time of year. I love the opportunity a fresh new year presents, like a clean, new, untouched book ready to have its words read. So while I went to bed early, feeling sad at being so far away from home and feeling somewhat disappointed that I was not out partying like it’s 1999, I felt quietly excited for the next day. You see the next day, January 1stI was awake early, refreshed and raring to start this new magnificent year.

I can’t wait to see what new adventures are in stall for my family in 2016…
